Автором концепции AFCK - боевого складного ножа от Benchmade был Крис Караччи (C.J. Caracci)- инструктор по боевым исскусствам, ветеран подразделения "Морские котики" (Navy SEAL), участвовавший в различных заданиях и операциях и имеющий большой опыт в вопросах самозащиты и безопасности. В свое время Крис Караччи также вел специальный раздел на Блэйдфорумс, который назывался Chris Caracci's Urban Jungle.

Он сформулировал следующие требованию к ножу:
* Лезвие должно хорошо резать и колоть, причем режущие свойства более важны для ножа как средства самообороны.
* Возможность открывания одной рукой. В качестве технического решения приоритет отдается отверстию для открывания лезвия, так как штифты и т.п. выступы для открывания могут зацепиться за одежду противника.
* Рукоять должна быть эргономичной и обеспечивать надежное удержание в любых условиях, при этом гарда недопустима на карманном ноже, так как может сыграть роль якоря и воспрепятствовать быстрому извлечению ножа в экстремальной ситуации.
*Возможность использования головки рукояти для нанесения ударов на манер явары. Это должно отчасти компенсировать основной недостаток складного ножа с точки зрения самообороны - некоторую задержку с приведением в «рабочее» состояние. При внезапной атаке может не остаться времени на открывание ножа. В подобной ситуации сложенный нож может использоваться как явара для освобождения от захвата или нанесения шокирующего удара в болевую точку.
Техническое исполнение было возложено на команду инженеров Benchmade под руководством Марка МакУиллиса (Mark МсWillis), тогдашнего вице-президента Benchmade . Реализация концепции Караччи оказалось столь удачной во всех отношениях, что нож быстро стал весьма популярным (естественно, речь идет о Западе, прежде всего о США). Единственное, что не позволило AFCK потеснить Spyderco Endura - это более высокая цена.

• TSEK -Tactical Safety Equipment Knife – младший «гражданский» брат AFCK со штифтами на лезвие (805й)
В настоящее время фирма Benchmade выпускает лимитированные версии AFCK в двух вариантах - с замком лайнером (800я) и с замком Axis lock (806й – чуть длинее). И тот и другой имеют свои достоинства и недостатки, и сам покупатель должен определить, что же он хочет от своего ножа исходя из предполагаемых условий эксплуатации.
После выхода 806го с Axis lock Караччи разругался с Benchmade причем жестко.

Guys I need to see pictures of these locks, it is the only way that I can be sure of what you are all talking about.
As I said before I do not always look for latest greatest.
I am a user not a collector, therefore if a liner lock is made properly it will always be my favorite for a combat folder.
The lockback for sure is inappropriate for fighting, and if the Axis is the one they showed me then you can bet your LIFE it can easily close by accident by your fingers inadvertently hitting the release.
I do not mean these locks fail under pressure they fail by your hand or fingers inadvertently hitting or depressing a release.
Blood is an excellent lubricant and grip is paramount in use of the knife.
Before I designed the AFCK I have never seen a liner lock that was completely cut away as a finger groove. That was essential as far as I was concerned.
Even Mr. Emerson politely but truly unnecessarily asked if I minded him copying the idea.
What other kind of locks does Mr. Emerson use?
I wonder why? He uses the liner lock, because for real operators there is nothing better, yet.
That is why real operators like his product.
